Ensure Project Safety and Success With Accurate GPR Scanning

GPR Scanning / Slab X-Ray

The use of non-destructive high-resolution ground penetrating radar (GPR – Utility Scan) before you core, cut or drill concrete, can greatly reduce the risk of workers cutting through live cables, pipelines, or other hazards. LeakTech’s concrete scanning can accurately indicate the presence and depth of pipes, cables, steel reinforcing, post-tension ducts, any voids in concrete and suspended slabs. GPR scanning technology greatly increases worker safety.

Locate Cables and Pipes Using Advanced GPR and Concrete Scanning Technology

Ground Penetrating Radar (X-Ray)

Ground penetrating radar (GPR – Structure Scan) can assist with the location of underground services in many instances where standard radio-detection methods cannot. This technology is a critical component of our specialised underground pipe location and underground cable location services, ensuring we find non-conductive lines like PVC and fibre optics.

GPR scanning technology can assist in the location and depth of:

  • Water mains – all types, including asbestos, blue brut
  • Pipes – plastic, poly, pvc
  • Fire main valves
  • Fibre optic cables
  • Road crossings
  • Rising mains
  • Buried manhole covers
  • Underground tanks and pits

Ground penetrating radar is a non-destructive geophysical method which uses radar pulses to ‘map’ an image of shallow subsurface features (down to 6 metres approximately). The data collected from the radar sweeping across the surface is used to construct a view of the subsurface.

Unfortunately, some conditions have a negative impact on GPR scanning performance. High-conductivity (high moisture content) materials and heterogeneous conditions (rocky soils) will reduce its performance. For example, while dry sandy soils will allow radar penetration to approximately six metres, wet clay soils and salt-contaminated soils can reduce the depth to less than one metre. Rocky soils can cause radar signal scattering.

Accurate GPR Water Leak Detection

Ground penetrating radar is a non-destructive technology that scans the ground using radio waves to assist with leak detection. GPR scanning can detect changes or anomalies in the subsurface of the ground, such as moisture, damaged pipes or water-filled voids. This ability to scan underground structures and soil conditions makes GPR water leak detection highly effective for early detection, allowing for minimal impact and swift repairs to protect properties, all without requiring extensive, disruptive, and costly excavation.

Why Choose LeakTech for GPR Scanning

At LeakTech, we combine extensive industry expertise and advanced GPR scanning technology to deliver reliable results that homeowners, businesses, contractors, and civil clients can trust. From hidden underground leaks to pipes and cables under concrete, our specialists can help minimise potential hazards, disruptions, and costly damage.

Our specialised GPR water leak detection and service locating services offer superior precision, which is why plumbers and other leak detectors call us to locate leaks and services they cannot.

100,000+ Leaks Detected

Yes. GPR water leak detection is an efficient and effective method for detecting and locating hidden underground water leaks early.
GPR water leak detection offers a variety of benefits, including non-destructive detection, swift results, and high accuracy. GPR scanning also allows for fast and accurate leak detection without disrupting existing infrastructure.
GPR scanning goes down to 6 metres approximately; however, some conditions can impact the performance, reducing the depth of the scan to as little as 1 metre.
Yes, our technicians will provide a detailed report outlining our findings, including a map of the underground infrastructure detected to support safe excavation or construction, or recommended actions to address any leaks detected.
While you can try your luck with free plans from Dial Before You Dig or utility companies, we don’t recommend it. These plans are often out-of-date and inaccurate. To ensure the safety and success of your project, it is best to contact qualified, professional CERTLOC-certified and Accredited Plant Locators, like our team at LeakTech, for professional GRP scanning and service location.

Using advanced concrete scanning and GPR scanning technology, our LeakTech specialists can accurately locate the presence and depth of:

  • Water mains – all types, including asbestos, blue brut
  • Pipes – plastic, poly, PVC
  • Fire main valves
  • Fibre optic cables
  • Road crossings
  • Rising mains
  • Buried manhole covers
  • Underground tanks and pits
